How the Diamond Beach entrance fee works
The Diamond Beach entrance fee question is answered by the vehicle parking tariff: the base charge for a car with up to five registered seats is 1,110 ISK, as read on 5 November 2026. This is a National Park regional fee collected at the parking areas, rather than a per-person beach ticket. Choose the vehicle category by its registered seats when arranging payment for your visit.
Fellsfjara, the beach known as Diamond Beach, lies south of Route 1 beside Jökulsárlón. Parking areas serve both the lagoon and the beach. These places belong to a shared payment zone, which makes it practical to see the lagoon and the coast during the same visit. The fee arrangements and the walking route are separate matters: payment does not change the need to approach the shore carefully.

Vehicle categories and the web payment charge
The National Park tariff read on 5 November 2026 lists 1,440 ISK for cars with 6 to 9 registered seats, 2,770 ISK for buses with 10 to 21 seats, 5,200 ISK for buses with 22 to 32 seats, and 9,400 ISK for buses with 33 seats or more. Motorcycles have a separate 450 ISK category. Use these vehicle bands rather than counting how many passengers happen to be travelling that day.
Parka web payment shows a separate transaction charge of 89 ISK in addition to the parking amount, also read on 5 November 2026. Keep that web charge separate from the base tariff when budgeting. For an organised alternative, the private Reykjavík outing includes parking fees, fuel and road tolls; its advertised price is per person. Compare the format on the private tours page.

Pay for the vehicle and the correct day
Payment is available through the Parka app, the linked web payment service and machines at the parking areas. Registration plates are recorded photographically, so enter the vehicle registration carefully and retain your payment confirmation. An app is one available method; choose the method that suits your visit and check the vehicle details before completing payment.
A payment covers Jökulsárlón, Eystri-Fellsfjara and Vestari-Fellsfjara until midnight on the paid day, with entry and exit possible within that period. An afternoon payment therefore ends that night. Arrange any later calendar-day visit on that basis, rather than treating the payment as a rolling day from arrival. See getting to Diamond Beach for the broader journey plan.
Discounts and disability parking arrangements
The National Park offers a 50% reduction when visiting another fee-paying parking area in the same park on the same day. For the combination with Skaftafell, Parka specifies using the same payment method. Jökulsárlón and the two Fellsfjara parking areas already form a single zone, so distinguish moving within that zone from visiting a second National Park parking area.
If travelling with a disability parking permit, apply for a registration-plate exemption before driving to the site and wait for confirmation. Carrying the permit alone should not replace this arrangement in your planning. For wider park context, see Vatnajökull glacier and national park.
Walking access, toilets and the end of your visit
Use the route under the bridge between the lagoon and beach areas. The National Park advises against walking across the road bridge. The B2 beach walk is listed as a 1 km return route, with a photography exhibition and information panels; allow your own time for reading, photography and conditions instead of planning a tight connection around it.
Flush toilets are available at Jökulsárlón. Include that stop in the visit rather than assuming every beach parking area has the same facilities. At the shore, stay back from the water, watch the sea and keep children accompanied. The beach safety guide explains waves and ice. Breiðamerkursandur is marked for no overnight stays, so choose a nearby accommodation base for the night rather than sleeping in the vehicle at the visitor site.
